Diverse Needs

In today’s inclusive classrooms, Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) play a vital role in supporting students with a wide range of conditions, each presenting its own unique profile, challenges, and strengths. This 10-part webinar series is designed to empower SNAs with the knowledge, confidence, and practical strategies needed to respond effectively and compassionately to diverse learner needs.

Each webinar in the series focuses on a specific condition that SNAs are likely to encounter in primary and post-primary school settings – from Selective Mutism and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) to Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Drawing on current best practice, trauma- informed approaches, and inclusive education frameworks, this series aims to deepen understanding and strengthen the professional toolkit of every SNA.

Whether you’re new to the role or an experienced practitioner, this series will help you:

  • Recognise key traits and support needs associated with different conditions.
  • Build trusting, respectful relationships with students.
  • Apply practical, student-centred strategies that promote regulation,
    engagement, and inclusion.
Together, let’s create more inclusive, understanding, and empowering environments for every learner.
