As Ukrainian students continue to integrate into Irish schools, Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) play a crucial role in helping them feel safe, supported, and included. Many of these students have experienced significant disruption, trauma, or language barriers — making the role of the SNA vital in fostering stability, trust, and belonging within the classroom.
This one-hour interactive webinar explores how SNAs can apply trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and inclusive strategies to promote emotional wellbeing, communication, and learning for Ukrainian students. Participants will gain practical tools they can implement immediately, such as visual supports, communication passports, and scaffolding strategies for English language learning and homework support.
The session also includes guidance on observing students during the “Silent Period,” collaborating with teachers and families, and using wellbeing practices to nurture resilience and connection.
Each participant will receive a downloadable PADLET including templates, observation checklists, and links to EAL and Department of Education supports.
