This introductory webinar supports SNAs to move beyond surface-level behaviour and develop a deeper understanding of why behaviours of concern occur. Participants are guided to replace judgement with curiosity, recognising behaviour as communication and a response to unmet needs, stress, neurodiversity, or past experiences. The session lays a strong foundation for safe, compassionate, and effective support in everyday school life.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand what is meant by behaviour of concern in an educational context.
- Recognise behaviour as communication rather than “choice” or “defiance”.
- Identify common unmet needs that sit beneath behaviour.
- Understand basic stress responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn).
- Recognise how neurodiversity and trauma influence behaviour.
- Begin responding with curiosity, empathy, and regulation-focused support.
